Dewberries and Full Blooms Day at the Star Ranch

What a beautiful day! In between filling feeders and other odds and ends of necessary chores, we enjoyed the blessings of the fruits of God's earth today by ending the evening with some super simple Dewberry Dumpcake that Robert says is "Pluckin amazing."

Mom' Dewberry Dumpcake

If you're into a fast, simple, and sweet fix, then follow the picture-directions below and bake at 375 degrees for about 40 minutes! Ingredients: dewberries, dry cake mix, one stick of butter.

Happy Easter(s), Y'all

Happy Easter(s), Y'all!

Happy Easters! No, that is not a typo. We're kicking off the 40 day Easter Season here by celebrating life! Our son, David, just called from France yesterday and shared with us that the French word for "Easter" is plural so that they are literally saying "Happy Easters"!

I can't think of a better way to celebrate that to be near family and friends and to admire the beauty displayed in nature all around us. To show our gratitude for the reason for this season - Christ risen from the grave - here are some of the joys we celebrate! Peace of Christ to y'all this Easters. Pax!

This is the day the LORD has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it.
- Psalm 118:24

The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is Back!

The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is Back!

This Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is probably still seated on the wire at the gate of the ranch where I just snapped his photo, and boy is a welcome sight! Spring has sprung.

Rumor has it that when these guys appear, then the freezes are OVER. Yes! That makes life more doable. To read more about these beauties, go here.

Saint Patrick’s Day With Our Gbabies

In light of the recent tragedies in Austin and of the people who have lost their lives or loved ones, sharing this today means much more. Today I am so very thankful for my family and that we are safe. Our prayers and thoughts go out to those suffering as we draw closer to our own in light of how every day we are here together is a gift. Love and peace to all.

No Mo Mowing

Despite all of the odds being against quail surviving and reproducing in the wild, here we have them! Thanks to a season of unmowed grass, Robert found this couple happily nesting and thriving near the ranch's lodge. Patches of 5-feet high grass in some areas surely helps.

The take-away: think before you mow, people, think. #againstallodds #nomomowing
