It's hard to see it, but snoozing lazily on the point just ahead of me is a lutra canadensis, or Texas river otter! We see plenty of wildlife here at the ranch, but this is a first. Our son, Landon, spotted it as what he first thought was a dead animal until he peered through his binoculars. Seeing otters is rare because they travel much and are shy, so this was a treat - that is, until I ran around the tank to take a picture. Shortly after this, our friend clued into my stalking and took a dive!
Bye, Felicia. At least we had a brief moment of shared shoreline.
The guys were not happy with my self-assigned National Geographic photographer pursuit because I scared it. I take full blame for this moment of hyperactive over-love of nature; BUT if it wants fish, it will return.
